Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, a.k.a. Wizkid, was born in Surulere, Lagos, on July 16, 1990. Twelve sister siblings and an interfaith family made up his upbringing. His father follows Islam, but his mother is a Pentecostal Christian. Ijebu Ode Grammar School was where Wizkid studied.

He was raised on the music of Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, and King Sunny Ade. He stated “his father has three wives” in a 2012 radio interview with Tim Westwood. Wizkid mentioned forming the Glorious Five with a few of his church mates in an interview with Adesope of Factory 78 TV.

Wizkid secured a one-year endorsement contract with Pepsi in 2012, purportedly for $350,000. In order to film a Pepsi commercial, he and Tiwa Savage traveled to Beirut, Lebanon. Premium Times announced on May 28, 2013, that Wizkid had agreed to a one-year contract with MTN Nigeria.

Wizkid’s Pepsi contract was reportedly extended for a further two years, according to the newspaper.
